Safety Issue
Section 12.14. Weapons.
No firearms of any kind or nature, including rifles, handguns, bows, slingshots, BB guns, slings, traps, or any other like weapon, shall be used or discharged within Beaver Lake Park except by authorized governmental officials.
On Friday May 14th, a couple kids found an explosive device near the park on either side of the chain-link fence by the pond which, according to the kids, had possibly been there for a while. It was an aerosol can with a type of firecracker duct-taped to it and a large "Sterno" fuel can. 911 was called by one of the neighbors and several patrol cars arrived and two homes near the pond were evacuated. The police inspected the items, talked to the kids who found it, and determined it was dead. Most importantly, one policeman talked to most of the neighborhood kids about his experiences with guns and explosives and impressed their rule of "Look and Leave" upon everyone. This means that if anyone should stumble across anything suspicious at all, they should look, leave immediately, and tell an adult or call 911. Given the incident last year with the teenagers hiding the beer in the park and trying to retrieve it later, I think we should all be on alert to suspicious activity in and around the water retention pond and park.
